Mirage 2000 D (plus a -5DDA)
Hello again to everyone!
My first Work In Progress in the forum with 2 models on my benchwork, both Mirage 2000!
Kit no 1 is from Kinetic and it will be a N with the desert camouflage from Red Flag exercise in the early 90's.
I will be using markings from an older Heller kit for the "4-AF" and i have made a little progress i will gradually post.
The second kit is from Italeri, basically a Kinetic kit with some extras sprues and new decals. It is going to be a D and possibly in the box art's profile.

Re: Mirage 2000 D (plus a -5DDA)
And here's some progress on the N.
As usual, start from the cockpit. I like Kinetic's detail in this point, the dash boards however, depict a glass cockpit from a modernised 2000-5. Initially, i didn't mind, i painted and glued the parts but later i took the decision to make some modifications.
Apart from the pinmarks on the spots where seats are placed, i also removed some plastic as you may have noticed, because after dry-fitting the ejection seats, they seemed to be standing higher than normal.
So, i stripped off the paint, removed most of the screens and added analog instruments from pieces of evergreen sheet and heated-stretched sprue in different diameters.
I made the ventral screens sunshades
And started working on the front HUD area
Painted the cockpit, i first used humbrol 64 but later changed it with 126.

Re: Mirage 2000 D (plus a -5DDA)
In the meanwhile, i finished the Mk-10 seats, added seatbelts from tin alluminium foil.
The exhaust pipe, made an attempt to add some detail in the inside.
I didn't like the final result and replaced it with thin plastic sheet, then painted and partially weathered it.
Added some wiring to the landing gears and placed wheels on a heated ironing device to simulate pressed tires -i think i overdid it. On the front strut lights, i tried to replicate glass by filling them with a little bit of white wood glue and when it dried (the specific glue turns transparent), a few drops of gloss varnish.
That's all for now, there is a bit more progress that i will post some other time
Thanks for your time watching! Any observations are welcome!

Re: Mirage 2000 D (plus a -5DDA)
Hello and thank you for the comments!
Some more pictures from the progress on the N.
I made the Rafaut LBF-2 practice bomb container, out of a Super 530 missile and styrene sheet, a lot of sanding and then added some scribbing.
Both parts finished and tested on the model
Most of the external loads are also finished, there's a bit of work on the kit to complete assembly and i hope soon to start with the D.

Re: Mirage 2000 D (plus a -5DDA)
Hello and thank you for your kind words!
Last set of pictures from the work done so far.
I tried to make the raised weldings on the fuel tanks. I used heated and stretched sprue which i first wrapped around a marker and put it in boilling water for a few seconds.
Sounds strange but the heat made the sprue maintain that spiral shape!
Cut it into pieces to the necessary length and glued each one on the engraved lines.
The rest of the finished armement, i am aware that the correct configuration is a mix of those and not all together , but i like to take advantage of every hardpoint. Like fully loaded aicrafts!
An exercise magic missile and a NECA pod (hope i spelled it right)
And 4 Mk-82 bombs from a Kinetic F-16 kit, along with Mica missiles fuselage pylons that i modified a bit.
Here's also a couple of pictures from the progress on the kit, trying to fix some fitting problems by sanding and later recribbing :affraid:
There were some gaps on air intakes that first i filled with a bit of plastic sheet and the part of the spine seemed to be wider than the rest of fuselage, i sanded the join points before gluing them together. Also, the aileron parts were not aligned with the wingtips, so i sanded them to the proper length but overdid it, as a result causing a few gaps next to the flaps.
Thanks for your time watching!
Kind regards!

Re: Mirage 2000 D (plus a -5DDA)
Hi again!
A little progress with the cockpit on the D.
Likewise on the N, removed a bit more plastic so that seats can stand at proper high and started modifying instrument panels lay out. This time however, i'm going to glue the part placed behind the front seat when i finish entire assembly in order to avoid breaking the front canopy lift mechanism and have better access after closing the pit and fuselage halves.
Building the kit for the second time, i decided to ignore instructions and glued each half of the fuselage parts (dorsal spine and small piece above the exhaust pipe) onto the respective fuselage halves and tried to align outer sides. Any discrepancies from the first dry fit, occured on the join points which i sanded. I believe it saved me from a lot of sanding and rescribbing!
Next thing to do, painting the cockpit tub the day after tomorrow!
Wish you all a happy Easter!

Re: Mirage 2000 D (plus a -5DDA)
Thanks a lot tigershark!
A quick update, some progress on the D.
Added some analog instruments and sunshades, using thin styrene sheet and pieces of heated and stretched sprue. I've painted basic colors to the cockpit parts and still have to finish details, varnishes and a bit of dry brushing.
Started working on the armement, drilled holes for the exhausts and glued a piece from the plastic part of an cotton swab on the As-30.
Magic 1 missiles are not provided with the holes onto their topside that match to their pylons' pins, so i had to drill them as well -just to be sure when it comes to final assembly!
Thanks for your time!

Re: Mirage 2000 D (plus a -5DDA)
Hi and thank you for your kind words!
You make me
These two schemes are very attractive, even for me considering i'm greek.
Having built a N in the standard grey/green camo and planning to build another 2 Mirages in blue/grey colours, i can tell you one Mirage 2000 in the display case is never enough!
You make me
IMHO, the shape and generally the silhouette of Mirage 2000, makes it the most beautiful fighter and its camouflages give a wide range of modelling projects that you can't decide which one to make!Buddy a écrit:

Re: Mirage 2000 D (plus a -5DDA)
Hi all!
I am trying to make the DDM system on the magic missile rails, cut off the rear ends and glued a longer piece from an other set of Kinetic pylons.
I will be using this kind of extension as a basis for the later additions from evergreen sheet, but apart from this link, i couldn't find better photos of it and where the sensor is visible.
Any reference material would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

Thanks Romain!
It's a great help to figure out the shape. I see the sensors facing to the opposite direction on each pylon, or they are on both sides?
